Roland printers and Roland engraving machines should also work. For Boss products please use the Boss decoder as that has the the Boss production dates. Some examples:-Roland serial numbers should be either 6 numbers, or be 6 or 7 characters with 2 letters and the rest numbers.
Roland Boss Serial Number Decoder Number
Hey y'all,
I just picked up an Epiphone SG G-400 for next to nothing - got a Boss GP 10 processor and the guitar for $300 - and I'm trying to identify the year.
The serial number is:
I961130
According to this page:
Epiphone Serial Number Decoding - Gibson Brands Forums
That would make it either a 99 or a 96, but I can't tell which it is.
The thing is, when I searched for other 96 Epi SGs, all of their numbers started with only 6 (after the factory code letter).
But when I searched for other 99 Epi SGs, all of their numbers started with 99 (after the factory code letter).
So I can't tell if it's a:
99 model made in Korea in June, ranking #1130 or ...
a 96 model made in Korea in January, ranking #130 .... or ....
a 96 model made in Korea in November, ranking #30
Can anyone clue me in?
I swear, it seems that, whichever Epi serial number I look at in guitars I'm thinking about buying, the serial numbers never seem to fit obviously into one of these formats.
Regardless, I'm going to keep the guitar because it plays amazingly and sounds awesome. But I'd just like to know for my records.
thanks!
